New speed limit

I saw Tom in the market this morning and asked him if he would consider putting his name forward to be an elected councilor. After months of confusion about the 30kl limit, Tom spoke to the council and has had the limit raised to 40kl which should come into force shortly - a much more sensible rate. Not sure why our elected PAID councilors could not have done this. So a big thank you to Tom for all the work he does around the community for the benefit of us all.

La Marina

Carol,
Quite possibly our Councillors, also wanted a 30 kph speed limit, Dont forget one of them complained just a few days before the 30kph was put in place.Because he was involved in two near misses
Yes Tommy may have done a good job of having it raised to 40kph,But because the Council messed up completely on painting the signs on some roads and not others made a complete mockery of the idea, so most Drivers (including Council and Police Vehicles) are still being driven at the 50 kph speed limit.(if you don't believe me, just clock your own speed at times). Also I doubt if the procedure of the change was completely legal, if only by the fact, that the council bleated on about the police having two radar guns, for July and August,i would of thought that if any one had been fined for driving at between 30kph and 50 kph, they would of been shouting from the roof tops just to convince us to drive slower, but I have not heard of anyone being fined for the offence.
So although Tommy has gone part of the way, it is a compromise, but in the end it would of been easier to wait a few months to find out if Spain is going to change the speed limit LAWS. which may happen in the next few months ,and if this does happen even 30kph will be over the speed limit in La Marina Urb

ALAN
By Tommy's own admission he was part of a delegation from The Presidents Association in which he acts as secretary, it was the strength of the entire delegation that got the council to see the stupidity of there ways!

Yes Friendly Viking you are correct, It was the Group of Presidents that got the 40kph instated on the Urb roads,.
But my main reason for my comment was that the 30kph limit was illegal, and so will the 40kph be
The speed in La Marina Urbs. is by Law 50kph,Unless a post with two notices appears, one telling drivers of a hazard and the second sign telling you of the speed limit until you have passed that hazard. The previous signs on the Urbs were legal. The posts indicating such hazards were legal 30 mph signs, as they warned of hazards ie road humps, and another giving the speed until you have passed that hazard,
In a few months time, it is expected that amendments will be made to many speed limits in Spain, which will legally bring the speed limit to areas like La Marina Urbs down to 30kph.and even many roads down to 20kph. Why don't the Council read up on the Laws, and just paint out the silly 30kph signs,so that we go back to the legal speed limit, and then if the amendments become law, they can put up legal signs, and perhaps that way at least Spain or Valencia, may put up some of the costs of these legal changes.

"The new road markings should commence next week". (This week).
Has anyone seen the new signs and new paintings on the street showing 40 km / h?

Hooray! There are now new signs and numbers on the Autovia (Av.) San Fulgencio! 40 km / h! For some it means nothing. The motto is: drive as fast as you can!
