La marina

hi, we are coming to la marina soon to look at the area with a view to eventually buying a small property. we have never actually been to la marina before so dont know what to expect. we know of people who have villas over there and they say it is lovely, friendly, very english etc, but after doing some of my own research on the internet i cant seem to find very much information about the different areas of la marina. for instance i have seen it referered to as oasis, village, urb etc. Are these areas very far apart, and what would be the main area for english entertainment, bars, karaoke, restaurants etc.also would it be essential to hire a car or could you manage with out one if just holidaying in the area, any info greatly apreciated.

La Marina

La Marina Urb,is a lively place in the summer, but gets a lot quieter the rest of the year, plenty of bars and restaurants,of which most stay open in the wintrer months. All types of food restauranta ie,British Indian Chinese French`etc.some public bus services, also a couple of companies run daily tour buses.People mainly friendly,at least five decent sized supermarket type stores.
La Marina is a very large Urbanisation places like Esquera and Oasis are attached to it,all of these are about 5 kilometres away from its main town(although much smaller than the Urb.)of San Fulgencio.A seperate entity entirely is La Marina pueblo, which although again about 4-5 kilometres from the urb,is entirely outside of the urb itself and technically has nothing to do with the urb.In my opinion a car is a neccessity to get around. The local beach is just a couple of kilometres further on than the pueblo. The Urb has many beaches nearby all within a 20 minute drive. For those taking permanent residence, and entitled to the Spanish Health System, you will find it much quicker than the English NHS. Torrievieha Hospital is so much more superior than any English NHS hospital that I have been to.i could go on but would take forever to give you all the pros and cons, but if you need to know anything specific, just put it on this forum, someone is bound to answer. Finally La Marina Urb is not the best place in the world to live or visit, but it sure as hell beats many places

hi alan, i dont usually post much on this site, but was wondering if you knew if quicksave supermarket is still open, i had heard it was up for sale, or is there any new shops open, do you know much about the clinic across from supervalue, we are a family of 4, and was wondering how much it cost for a family of 4 to get any treatment if we needed it, i had heard someone say it was about 200 euros, but not sure if that was right, i would be grateful for any information about the urb, will be out next week.many thanks ann.

Hi Pixie
We have a villa in La Marina and a small bed place 200 yards from the supervalu and police station. If you have nowhere to stay and are looking for somewhere while you are searching we are ok for you to use ours for 50 euros a week just to cover the electricity/air con costs that you will use. It has all mod cons/double bed. . In fact you can phone for money saving tips ( including saving on flights) if you text me your e mail address. We are over at the villa ourselves 12 April for 10 days-
our website for 100's photos of the area and things to do Cath and Steve from Preston

clydelauder,
Depending on if you are on holiday or you are to become resident in Spain,The answer to the cost at the Clinic is completely different,as is your age etc. if you are to become a resident. If you are coming for a holiday, you should bring your EHIC card, this will entile you to emergency treatment,at the clinic or the hospital, the U.K. government will eventually pay Spain for the cost, any medication you need will cost you full price,If you like you can visit the private clinic located on the strip, but you will have to pay for the visit. If you are to become resident in Spain the rules are different ,but if necessary just post on here, and I will do my best to give you the pros and cons.As for the shops etc. some bars and restaurants have closedbut a few have re opened under new management.Lidls have a small extension to their store and now do a nice range of fresh meat and fish,as well as a new bread counter.the rest are much the same as last year. Not sure about quick save but will find out and post later.

CLYDELAUDER

Quicksave is certainly open as usual! Whether it is up for sale or not I cannot comment on.
